5 Signs Indicating It's Time for a New HVAC System

When it comes to our home’s HVAC system, we’re often unaware of when it’s time for a replacement until it breaks down and is deemed unrepairable.

An HVAC system is one of the most important appliances in our home used to maintain a comfortable living environment. When it comes to our home’s HVAC system, we’re often unaware of when it’s time for a replacement until it breaks down and is deemed unrepairable. With spring knocking at our door and summer right around the corner, here are five signs indicating it’s time for a new HVAC system.

Age

Sometimes, age is the most obvious sign indicating that you need a new HVAC system. On average, it’s estimated that HVAC systems can last 10 to 15 years with regular maintenance before needing a replacement. However, if you’ve had your HVAC system for ten years or more, it’s time to consider investing in a new HVAC before your old one gives out. It’s usually cheaper to invest in a new HVAC system compared to trying to repair one that’s reached the peak of its lifespan.

Increased Utility Bills

It’s usually expected for your utility bills to increase and decrease during season transitions when trying to cool your home in warmer temperatures or warm your home in cooler temperatures. However, your bill shouldn’t be significantly higher than the previous year. Increasing utility bills is a sign that your HVAC is consuming more energy and isn’t performing as efficiently, indicating it’s time for a replacement.

Frequent Repairs

Often HVAC repairs are inevitable, especially with a lack of maintenance and older systems. However, if your HVAC requires frequent repairs, it may be time to invest in a new unit. Although the initial cost of a new HVAC system can be expensive, repair bills can add up, resulting in a replacement being the cheaper option saving you both time and money while keeping your home comfortable throughout the seasons.

Uneven Temperatures Throughout Your Home

If you’re experiencing uneven temperatures in the rooms of your home, such as a cold kitchen and a warm living room, this is a sign that your HVAC system isn’t maintaining a consistent temperature throughout your entire home. When your HVAC struggles to maintain a constant temperature, it could result from old age, maintenance problems, or installation issues. Generally, it means your system isn’t strong enough to cool or heat your home, indicating it’s time for a replacement.
