Dealing with Dust in Your Home

Dealing with Dust in Your Home

One side effect of a neglected HVAC system is an excessive amount of dust. For anyone sensitive to this allergen, they know all too well how miserable it can make them.

Your HVAC system needs to be maintained. The better you treat it, the better it will treat you. One side effect of a neglected HVAC system is an excessive amount of dust. For anyone sensitive to this allergen, they know all too well how miserable it can make them. Winter isn’t over yet, and you don’t need another reason to sneeze when you want to live your life!

Double Check the Filter

An easy way to determine the condition of your HVAC system is to look at the filter. Air filters are essential components of any residential HVAC system, but you must swap them out with fresh ones every few months. Clogged air filters reduce the efficiency of the system, waste energy, and fill your home with dust. If a screen doesn’t fit the right way, then that can also cause more problems where you least expect them.

Look for Potential Leaks

Changing the air filter is the first step, but it isn’t the last. Take the time to look for leaks in your HVAC system, and if you can’t find any, don’t assume that there isn’t anything wrong. There is! Either way, call your HVAC system technician, such as the team here at WE Kingswell. Shoddy installation, aging systems, and leaks will all keep your HVAC from doing the best job it can. Turn off all of the lights and shine a flashlight to see where the dust is accumulating. No matter how much time you spend sweeping and dusting your home, it might not be enough! If you think this might be the problem, give us a call right away!

Reset the Humidity Levels

You can also try resetting the humidity levels in your home. Dust can move around more easily in the cold winter air, believe it or not. By adding more moisture, you can make sure that the dirt sticks to filters and remains trapped instead of floating all over the place.
