How to Tell your Home Air Conditioner Needs Repairs

Today, we’ll be helping you determine when your home air conditioner is in need of repairs.

With temperatures heating up, especially as we get closer to summer, you’ll be relying on your home air conditioner more and more. This means you’ll need your air conditioner to be in good condition. That way, you’ll be ready for any heat waves that may come your way.

In order to properly care for your air conditioner, you’ll need to know when something is wrong with it. Today, we’ll be helping you determine when your home air conditioner is in need of repairs.

Airflow is Weak

Have you noticed that your home air conditioner has weak airflow? This could be due to problems with the ductwork, or your air filters could be clogged. In either case, this puts extra strain on your air conditioner to keep your house at the temperature you want. It also causes your energy bill to rise. Getting your air conditioner repaired will help to restore its energy efficiency, as well as reduce the strain that it experiences.

Odd Sounds

Your home air conditioner should operate relatively silently, as long as it’s functioning properly. If you start hearing unusual sounds, like squealing, rattling, or banging from your HVAC unit, it may be time to get it fixed up. These sounds could be caused by electrical failures, motor problems, or components of your HVAC system coming loose.

Short Cycling

For those who don’t know what short cycling is, it’s what happens when your HVAC unit turns on and off more frequently than usual. This is done before your unit even has a chance to finish a full cooling cycle. The issue could stem from a bad thermostat, a dirty air filter, or low reserves of refrigerant.

Increase in Energy Bills

Slight fluctuations in your energy bills are perfectly normal. If, however, your energy bills are much higher than normal, this is when you should be suspicious. It could be because of clogged filters, dirty coils, or perhaps some malfunctioning components in your home air conditioner. Whatever the reasons may be, you’ll want to get your HVAC system fixed in order to get your energy bills back to normal levels.
