3 Reasons Why Your Furnace is Producing Cold Air

Our home’s HVAC system plays a significant role in maintaining our comfort, keeping us protected from the fluctuating temperatures outside.

As we transition into the spring season, we’re still experiencing cool temperatures. Our home’s HVAC system plays a significant role in maintaining our comfort, keeping us protected from the fluctuating temperatures outside. Hence, the last thing you need is cold air blowing out of your heating system, specifically your home’s furnace. Listed below are three common reasons why your furnace is producing cold air.

Thermostat Settings

Thermostats are a key component of your HVAC system that allows you to monitor and control the temperature settings in your home, keeping you comfortable. However, sometimes your home’s thermostat can cause problems. If your experiencing cold air blowing from your heater instead of hot, your thermostat could be incorrectly set. Fixing your thermostat settings is relatively easy and can be resolved with the push or flick of a few buttons.

Dirty Air Filter

Air filters are another key component of your HVAC system. When clean, they provide your home with fresh filtered air improving your health and comfort. However, when your air filter is dirty, your health, comfort, and HVAC system can be compromised. Dirty air filters can impact the effectiveness of your HVAC system, causing cold air to blow from your heater. As a part of HVAC maintenance, your air filter should be checked and cleaned regularly and replaced at least every three months.

Time

Sometimes it just requires some extra time for your furnace to heat up. Furnaces typically involve many moving parts that don’t start up right away. When you turn on your furnace, all the parts need time to fire up. If you find yourself experiencing cold air blowing from your furnace, try waiting a little longer, especially if it’s been a while since it’s been turned on. It usually takes a furnace about 15 minutes to begin blowing warm air; however, if it’s still blowing cold air, there’s probably another issue with your system.
