How to Deal with HVAC Cooling Problems During Warmer Weather

Hot weather is almost a certainty during the hot summer months in Maryland. Shifting your attention to the overall condition of your HVAC system is critical. It could be a deeper problem if you are experiencing any unusual heating or cooling issues in your home. If your system is louder than usual, that can also be a potential issue. Continue reading for ways to cope with HVAC cooling problems.

HVAC cooling problems can be an issue in the summer.

Move the Air Around In Your HVAC System

Adjusting your air vents is a critical part of the process. Ducts that are dirty and clogged won’t work as well as they should. Furniture, dust, and debris can accumulate and build up more quickly. Try opening vents on all levels of your home to ensure that the air within the ducts of your HVAC system is circulating properly.

Reset HVAC Fan Mode from Auto to On

Another helpful trick is quite simple: Reset the fan mode setting from “auto” to “on” instead. Modern thermostats are easier to adjust to your liking. Such a feature can be a real lifesaver when dealing with uneven home cooling. The “on” setting allows the air to continue circulating even after the cooling cycle is done.

Schedule Air Leakage Inspections

Scheduled inspections are outstanding because they not only reveal unexpected air leakages but can also indicate more profound problems affecting your entire HVAC system. Damaged ducts won’t work as efficiently, and you’ll notice odd fluctuations in your energy bills. As a result, your system works twice as hard to compensate for the lost air, increasing your electric bill.

Replace Aging Insulation in Your Attic

Unfortunately, the attic is one area that falls into the trap of “out of sight, out of mind” for most homeowners. That said, from time to time, you will need to venture up there to look at the condition of its existing insulation. Replace any insulation that you see has rotted or worn out. Likewise, do your homework and brush up on the recommended R-Values to get the most of the new materials you lay down.
