5 Tips for Selecting a Quiet HVAC System for Your Home

5 Tips for Selecting a Quiet HVAC System for Your Home

When you have a loud HVAC system, getting some rest in this noisy world can be difficult.

How much do you value peace and quiet? When you have a loud HVAC system, getting some rest in this noisy world can be difficult. It’s even worse when you have several roommates or family members cohabitating with you and they are forced to turn up their music or the television so they can hear over the sound of the HVAC turning on. Well, this nightmare doesn’t have to be a constant plague on you. Just follow these helpful tips!

Learn More About Decibel Ratings

First of all, do your homework! It always helps to learn as much as you can about topics you don’t really understand. Many homeowners, unless they are in sound-heavy industries, probably won’t know why decibel ratings matter so much. Lower decibel ratings are a good thing – because they mean that the HVAC in question is quieter than its counterparts. Researching the different ratings will help you find the best one for you and your family!

Go Easy on the HVAC System

Our next suggestion is to take it easy. Don’t make the HVAC system work longer than it needs to; one of the reasons it could be so loud is that the motor is failing and that’s why it sounds like a rocket engine is about to boost your home into orbit. Adjust humidity levels as needed, especially during the dry days of winter. Humidifiers and dehumidifiers can work wonders for both indoor air quality and how much sound output you’ll have to put up with when you have an aging residential HVAC system.

Find Noise-Cancellation Solutions

Noise-cancelling technology is more than just a fancy feature on your wireless headphones! You can also leverage this marvelous innovation towards muffling the harsh sounds coming from your existing HVAC unit. Try adding compressor insulation, fan base insulation, or noise-reducing fan blades. Variable-speed-setting fans are also worth looking into if you can afford to do so.

Invest in Preventative Maintenance

The importance of preventative maintenance cannot be overstated. If your previous PM agreement expired, then it’s high time you sign a new contract! Let’s suppose that your previous provider let you down – well, we are proud to say that we will not!
