Tips for Maintaining Your HVAC this Summer

Tips for Maintaining Your HVAC this Summer

Your HVAC is going to see a lot of use this summer. That’s no exaggeration, considering all of the heat that we’ve already seen.

Your HVAC is going to see a lot of use this summer. That’s no exaggeration, considering all of the heat that we’ve already seen. And that’s with the earth, not all the way tilted towards the sun as it does once the summer solstice comes and goes. Here are some helpful tips for how to maintain your HVAC all summer long.

Get a Tune-Up

Getting a tune-up for your car every so often is important, so why wouldn’t you do the same for your HVAC system? Although this part of the process usually happens during the spring before the cooling portion of your unit is needed, it’s understandable when homeowners are unable to get it done in time. During the tune-up, your trusted HVAC technician will give the entire system a thorough inspection. Any problems are taken care of, and if there needs to be some preventative maintenance done, then it is addressed as well. That way, you won’t be left without air conditioning as the hottest days of the year approach.

Reset the Thermostat

Another tip we have for you is to reset the thermostat. Your daily schedule will look different during the summer than at any other time during the year. That’s because school is out for the summer, and summer is when most vacations happen. Keeping an empty house cool seems silly until you realize that coming back to a humid house is never a fun experience, especially during the summer. Account for later wake-up times, later bedtimes, and more occupancy in the home during normal weekday business hours – the times when the adults are at work and the kids are in school.

Boost the Airflow Levels

Your home can feel warm and stuffy when the air isn’t moving. One way to get the air moving is to make sure that everything in your HVAC system is working and that nothing is wrong. This means that the air filter needs to be changed out more often. The AC unit outside needs to be cleaned and free of debris. Check to make sure that all the vents are open and aren’t clogged.
