Heating Advice: How to Know You Need a New Heater

So when it comes to heating advice, here’s how to know you need a brand new heater this winter.

December is here. As this last month of the year proceeds, the days are going to get colder and colder. Even if you layer up with sweaters, socks, and slippers, you’ll probably still be tempted to run the heat. However, your thermostat and furnace work together and something could easily go wrong. So when it comes to heating advice, here’s how to know you need a brand new heater this winter

Is a Replacement Necessary?

Finding the time and opportunity to schedule a replacement for your heating system can be a headache. During this time of year, it can be a downright nightmare. For one thing, it’s bound to be much more expensive. And if it relies on natural gas, then it could take even longer. Besides, there’s a lot of labor involved. Even so, being proactive and replacing an aging heater will be worth it in the long run. So, yes, it might well be more necessary than you want to accept.

It Always Needs to Be Fixed

Let’s say that your heating system is always broken. HVAC systems in homes everywhere need to be maintained on a regular basis. Take our first piece of heating advice: if it needs to be fixed all the time, then it’s a sign that its functionality is about to go kaput.

Your Energy Bills Keep Rising

Most homeowners these days are concerned about energy efficiency. Thus, rising energy costs are going to take a toll on your wallet and your peace of mind. Unexpected spikes and other fluctuations in your energy bills are a bad sign. Even if your heating system has been used at its normal pace, this is another indicator that replacing your system ASAP should be a line item in your personal budget; here our advice is to get your heater inspected before the problems escalate.

The System Itself is Old

It’s entirely possible that your system is too old. Therefore, our final piece of heating advice is quite simple: get it replaced. HVAC systems are designed to last about a decade or so – but once they reach 12-15 years old, they are on their last legs.
