Here Are Four Common Causes Of Dirty Air Filters

These are some common signs of dirty air filters.

A dirty air filter leads to an inefficient HVAC system for your home. Aside from the extra energy used to keep your home pleasant, dirty air filters will make your HVAC system work twice as hard. If you deal with dirty air filters, you may wonder why they continue to be an issue. Here are a few of the numerous reasons why they are always messy.

You Rarely Change Your Air Filters

Depending on whether you have pets or suffer from indoor allergies, you should change your air filters every 2-3 months. If you use your heating and cooling system frequently, you should change your filters more regularly. You should change your filters once a month during the peak cooling season.

Your Air Filters Are Ineffective

Every air filter has a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating that indicates a product’s efficiency. Air filters with a high MERV rating are highly efficient, while filters with lower values are inefficient. Many low-cost filters must be replaced regularly to perform as effectively as more expensive choices. When selecting a filter, don’t only go with the cheapest option, as it could lead to unwanted issues.

Dust Is Impacting Your Air Quality

If your home has a lot of dust, your air filters will get dirty much faster. If there is a lot of dust and debris on the surface of vents, it will be drawn straight into the ducts and the filters. You should clean and dust your home regularly to prevent dust from accumulating on your filters.

You Have Pets In Your Home

If you have pets, your air filters will almost certainly need to be changed considerably more frequently. If you have a dog or a cat, the fur on their fur can quickly block the air filter. You should vacuum at least once or twice a week and brush your pet regularly to remove unwanted hair.
