4 Common HVAC Myths You Shouldn’t Believe

When it comes to something as reliable as your home’s HVAC systems, there are plenty of myths to fall for; don’t let this happen to you!

Myths can be a fun subject to explore. More often than not, though, it should only apply to the fantastical tales and urban legends that have always fascinated you. When it comes to something as reliable as your home’s HVAC systems, there are plenty of myths to fall for; don’t let this happen to you

You Won’t Have to Change the Air Filters

This belief is one of the most common myths. Many homeowners think that changing the air filters is an unnecessary nuisance. After all, if the air still seems clean, then what’s the point? Unfortunately, that perception is a mirage. Do your best to change the filter every month. You can also wait three months at a push. That said, the pets in your home will release plenty of dander, hair, and fur. As a result, you’ll want to swap out the filters more frequently than that benchmark. That way, your HVAC will continue running smoothly.

Bigger = Better

There is also the misconception that bigger is almost always better. In the case of HVAC units, this belief is incorrect. Overlarge systems are less efficient – and they won’t be able to remove humidity out of the air. Since spring and summer tend to be the more humid seasons, this will leave you and your family feeling sweaty and uncomfortable more than you need to be. Professional HVAC technicians can help you select which HVAC model is the best fit for your home’s size.

Maintenance Doesn’t Matter

It’s also easy to assume that you don’t need to keep your HVAC maintained. Preventative maintenance is far less expensive and time-consuming than dealing with significant repairs later on. PM can also reduce the chances that you’ll need to pay for a replacement unit when the one you have now wears out at the end of its service lifespan.

Air Leaks Are Easy to Find

Overconfidence can be your downfall. This statement can apply in several situations – both in daily life and in terms of home maintenance. The truth is that air leaks aren’t as easy to find as you might think they are. You might (eventually) notice that telltale hissing sound. By then, it could already be too late. In any case, have a professional come and find the leaks for you!
