Air Conditioner Checklist to Ensure Optimal Efficiency During Summer Months

Having a high-quality air conditioner during the summer months is essential. A solid air conditioning unit is considered a premium, with temperatures averaging close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the season. Enduring a summer day without crisp AC in your home can be physically draining.

Follow these optimal tips when using your air conditioner unit.

Preventative measures help your air conditioner in maximizing its full capabilities. The steps aren’t extensive, but it is best to make a checklist. You can take these simple steps and don’t have to be an HVAC expert. However, if you feel overwhelmed or don’t have much success with the steps below, contact W.E. Kingswell, and we’ll be delighted to help.

Check Air Conditioner Air Filter

Air filters often attract dirt, pollen, and dust. Those three elements combined within your air filter can harm the overall condition of your air conditioner. When those collective particles multiply, the flow of air drastically decreases. HVAC experts recommend that you change your air filters every three months. A poor air filter can potentially negatively impact the air quality in your home.

Check For Strange Noises

Listening to sounds your unit makes is one of the most simple steps you can take to ensure that it runs in tip-top shape. A properly working air conditioner operates without any abnormal sounds. Another sound to look out for is if your unit turns on and off while using it. If that happens, your unit might be too big or small for your home.

Inspect the Interior and Exterior of Your Air Conditioner

Your vision is another sense that you can use to detect any problems. In the same way, you can use your ears to hear for issues; you can also use your eyes to see any potential issues. It would be helpful to check for signs of leakage around your AC. Regardless of the size of the leak, it could prove to be harmful to your unit in the long term. You can also check if any parts or belts might be loose.

Monitor Your Thermostat

You won’t have much success staying cool this summer without a properly working thermostat. Proper usage of the thermostat throughout the day can keep you cool and help you decrease your energy bill during the summer months. One way to do this is by keeping your thermostat temperature around the same degrees outside on that particular day.

Check For Any Bad Odors

If you smell any foul odors, that is a cause for concern. Typically, there are three familiar scents that an air conditioner might make. Rotting smells, musty smells, and chemical smells are the most common. Rotting smells typically come from dead animals. Musty smells indicate an accumulation of mildew within your system. Chemical smells are the most hazardous, and you should exercise extreme caution if you experience any.
