Installing Air Filters In Your Home? If So, You Should Know These Four Types

Experts recommend that you should often change the air filters within your home. Depending on the particular type and brand of air filter, this process could occur every month, every three months, or even every two weeks. Your home’s HVAC system needs plenty of upkeep and preventative maintenance to keep it running smoothly and properly. With that said, here are the different types of air filters that you can install within your home’s HVAC system.

Know these types of air filters.

Fiberglass Air Filters

Fiberglass filters are also known as synthetic filters. These filters are inexpensive and can catch more significant pieces of debris and dirt. These filters are one of the most common types available to consumers. Also, your fiberglass air filters should be changed monthly, so it would be wise to keep that in mind.

Polyester Air Filters

Polyester filters are a bit harder to find than fiberglass ones. They’re also more expensive than our previous option, but they are worth every cent. Polyester filters also trap more dirt and dust particles than fiberglass can. Installing these filters in your home can go a long way in improving indoor air quality. Polyester air filters are also resistant to chemicals and dry heat.

Electrostatic Filters

Electrostatic filters work by using static to your advantage. There are generally two types available: disposable and washable. The disposable filters can be thrown away when you’re done with them, but washable ones should be saved. You can wash them with soap and water and continue using them in your HVAC system. However, you’ve got to dry them off entirely before reinstallation. If you don’t, there’s a chance for mold and mildew growing in your home.

Pleated Filters

Pleated filters are arguably the most effective. They do an incredible job of helping remove bacteria and viruses from your atmosphere. They also can help reduce other contaminants as well. These filters are more durable and efficient than other air filters and come in various sizes. Pleated filters also have a higher MERV rating (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value), which is another interesting tidbit to keep in mind when shopping for air filters.
